This course focusses on socially engaged art and introduces participants to artistic practices by renown international artists such as Theaster Gates, Tania Bruguera, Carolin Caycedo, to exceptional projects such as John Halperns breathtaking sculpture ‘Fresh Air’, part of his award-winning New Consume project as well as up-close interviews with internationally recognised artists and filmmakers from ‘The Tuning Fork’ initiated by ICAI founders John D. Halpern and Emily M. Harris. In addition Margret Wibmer will introduce some of her current participative performance, sharing valuable insights into development and inspirational sources.
Participants will be encouraged to discuss and share their views, concerns, thoughts and ideas. Regardless of your level of knowledge of art, this course will inspire you. Previous Art for Impact courses were joined by experts working in the field of sustainability, social equity, green financing and human rights; as well as artist, art educators, curators, researchers, psychologists and others.
Margret Wibmer who runs this in person course for small groups since 2022, in her studio in Amsterdam in collaboration with ICAI, is an internationally exhibited artist, participatory art producer and art educator, with a broad knowledge in contemporary arts and breaking developments in the field. She has many years of teaching experience in The Netherlands and beyond. Since 2020 she is adjunct lecturer at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore. In 2022 she joined the Institute for Cultural Activism International (USA) as collaborator and board member.
