The focus of this workshop will be on artistic practices that explore how art can ignite care, inspire action, and foster a sense of togetherness. After a brief introduction, the main focus of the evening will be Margret’s recent ‘Salon d’Amour’ performance cycle in Kanazawa, where members of the public participated as actors in a captivating journey of sound, spoken word and costume.

The participants’ rich and diverse experiences, which lie at the heart of this work, cannot be fully captured through video or images. Through an open workshop format that encourages conversations, the various layers of this masked performance will be explored, providing inspiration and new perspectives. A central theme of the workshop is the concept of ‘Ma’—a pause in time or emptiness that holds profound significance. Additionally, the workshop will explore the spirit of spaces and materials, focusing on how cultivating awareness of these elements can deepen our connections with the environment, nature, and all living beings, both human and non-human.

Margret Wibmer is an Amsterdam based globally recognised visual and performance artist, participatory art producer, adjunct lecturer at NAFA Singapore and a board member of the US based Institute for Cultural Activism International.
